Once Upon a Time. Her mind at ease, she hands the dagger over, and Rumple, still in his guise, later enters his shop and asks Belle a few questions about her budding new relationship. Ageing magic in tow, he threatens to use it on her, knowing that he can never be the man that she wants him to be but believing that he can have a second chance with his new son. Gold finds the writer in there, clearly looking for something, and questions why he's in there. At any time, Hades can come and take Rumple's new baby away from him; as such, Rumple now serves him to stop that from happening. Rumple then says he'll see her tomorrow, asking her to bring her simmering rage as it's all she has. However, he points out that her victory is flawed as she'll have no one to hold it over, and she'll eventually be left with a hole in her heart that revenge just cannot fill. Dafür braucht Neal ihren Namen nicht. "Remembrance of things past," Mr. Gold says, entering the office. They are one in the same, and one can't exist without the other. Regina proceeds to leave with Isaac as Mr. Gold collapses onto the floor, but when the former Evil Queen refuses to let the Author write anything new, he returns to the Dark One, using his now-empowered (thanks to Lily's blood) ink to start writing a new story for everyone in town... ("Mother"), Isaac comes close to completing the new book, entitled "Heroes and Villains", but there's one detail he has yet to hash out - the issue of Baelfire. She then asks for him to cast the spell on her and he turns her into an unrecognizable peasant who will be able to find an unsuspecting Snow White and kill her, in exchange for her bankrupting King George's kingdom. Rumple denies this, wondering who told her, and she states that rumors travel fast on the front line, accusing him of being a coward and saying that she would have preferred to be married to someone who fought and died. "If something tragic were to happen to David's wife, and if Mary Margaret should take the blame..." Gold suggests before being interrupted by Regina, who says Mary Margaret would be ruined. He does so, leaving Neal's corpse alone in the woods. He admits that he would never give up his power, pointing out that everything he's ever done has been in the interest of preserving it and even his selfless deeds such as finding Baelfire, sacrificing himself to save Storybrooke and marrying Belle have been meticulously undone by his scheming. Luckily, Belle is rescued by Hook, who is forced to kill Jekyll, and this causes Hyde to die as well, meaning Rumple gets his dagger back. Later, Henry approaches his grandfather and asks for an after-school job in the shop; Gold accepts the boy's offer, unaware of the fact that he's only doing it in an attempt to find out more about who wrote his book of fairytales. This spares everyone going to the Underworld, and Emma is no longer the Dark One... but she still hears the call of the dagger, because it turns out Gold has re-tethered it to himself, having tampered with Excalibur and made it so that the power of all Dark Ones now resides in him. ("The Apprentice"), Belle and Gold are summoned to the sheriff's station with everyone else where they learn that Emma, despite having no memories of such a thing, used to be the Snow Queen's foster daughter. The new Dark One proceeds to kill the rest of the soldiers with complete ease using the dagger, much to the protest and horror of Baelfire. Amused, Gold tells the Mayor that he's flattered, but not interested, and she assures him that she didn't mean it like that; she requires that he find a baby for her to adopt and soon, as the waiting lists she's looked into are all at least two years. He then tells her not to fear, as he can ease her mind... but it's gonna cost her something in return. Ariel makes her way to Storybrooke and does just that, and in the shell is a magical message from Gold - he tells Belle that she'll be able to find the object using the power of their strong love. Rumplestiltskin tells them the infant is their only hope. Regina is furious that Gold did not fulfill his side of their deal, the side where Mary Margaret escapes and leave Storybrooke where bad things happen. Emma and Sidney are left confused. Events transpire and Snow White casts a Dark Curse over the Enchanted Forest so that they may return to Emma and use her magic to defeat Zelena, who alters the curse to her own suiting and devises a memory potion to drink once she's in Storybrooke so that she'll remember what she's setting out to do. Rumple then fills a wineskin with water from the River of Lost Souls and glamours it as a heart, making Pan think that he's receiving a second chance at life when, in fact, he's receiving his doom. Gold tells her that she needs to find Miss Blanchard soon or she will be damned to jail innocent or guilty. She ends up storming out of the shop but returns later with an idea... and a needle-prick capable of administering the sleeping curse. She considers this, but ultimately rejects the offer, to Rumple's dismay. Sidney warns Emma to be cautious and think clear. In some versions, she sends a servant into the woods instead of going herself, in order to keep the king's suspicions at bay. From then on, they decide to form a tight-knit alliance with one another. After drinking it, Jekyll transforms into Mr. Hyde, who is very persuasive and manages to gain Jekyll a membership on the board of Dr. Lydgate - who also happens to be the father of the woman he desires, Mary. She notes his outfit and assures him that he doesn't have to resort to being the Dark One in order to defeat Pan, and soon asks him what the doll's significance is. He tells Snow if he wants her to make someone love her, then he cannot do that, nothing can. Ursula then shoves Belle over to the Dark One, and she along with her two allies disappear. This backfires, however, when Mary prefers Hyde to Jekyll, and ends up going to bed with him. ("The Crocodile"), Dr. Whale visits Mr. Gold with only one arm after it is ripped off of him by Daniel. She apologizes for controlling him and promises to never do it again, giving him the sword so that he has control over his own actions. Everyone begins to digest Gold's return, including Belle, who now realizes her tricked her in the form of Hook, as Regina retrieves the page from Henry, learning from August that the door and the page are one in the same, so the Author isn't sealed away in the Sorcerer's house like Rumple thought - the Author is trapped inside the book.
